Stepping up to the plate with this book giveaway

I've got doubles of an amazing little book, so here's what I'm gonna do.  Give you a bit of a book review about it and then offer up one used but in great condition copy of it to a new home- perhaps yours?  It does involve a cat after all, and cats and books should go to good homes, don't you agree?

Ok, this particular title is more of a children's selection than adult's, BUT in my opinion it fits into a cross over category.  Enjoy today and know that a more "adultish" book review will be posted shortly.

VITALS: "The Fire Cat" by Esther Averill.  Published in 1960, part of a thirteen story collection from the author's "Cat Club" series.
HOW WE MET: my childhood
A MOMENT'S SUMMARY: Pickles the cat doesn't have social cat etiquette down, to the point that he's quite a bully.  Eventually things change as he meets Mrs. Goodkind who helps him find meaningful work.  As a firehouse cat, Pickles flourishes into the brave- hearted feline he was always meant to be.
HEAD AND HEART: the whole cat club series is endearing to me, and Pickles specifically.  How could I not adore him?  He embodies my favorite type of animal personality.
KEEP AN EYE OUT FOR: Mrs. Goodkind, a "cat lady" (ain't nothing crazy about her) with a perfect descriptor of a last name.
FOR MY QUOTEBOARDS: "Pickles, you are not a bad cat.  You are not a good cat.  You are good and bad.  And bad and good.  You are a mixed-up cat.  What you need is a good home.  Then you will be good."

AS FOR YOU: Have you decided it's worth the read, or not?  Got an insider scoop on this book?  Carry on the discussion in the comments!

Just hopped over here from Elizabeth's blog - I found this book at a garage sale, perhaps...? It was a long time ago, and the book came to us very beat up. I have read it to my children so many many times. The first time I read it to myself I think I laughed my head off at the psychology of the Fire Cat reduced to learning-to-read prose, and at the hairdo of Mrs. Goodkind. Our whole family never got tired of this story. I don't think I've every seen it featured on a blog or a review, so I am very pleased to find it here, and it endears me to you, so I will have to keep browsing your site. Thank you!
